Sensitivity issues in medical collections
The management of sensitive records is an essential aspect of record keeping across the health sector. Whilst guidance and training is on hand to provide professionals knowledge and procedures for handling sensitive records covered by existing legislation (DPA), the broader aspects of sensitivity in record keeping is relatively thin on the ground. The HARG committee decided that action was required to bring together professionals to exchange experiences and discuss problems generated by sensitivity records in order to move towards the creation of more consistent set of guidelines. To this end, the group, in collaboration with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, hosted a day-long workshop on various sensitivity issues surrounding scientific and medical records on 17 July 2017. The report of the proceedings can be found here, along with presentations and posters created during the workshop session. The workshop is beginning of the process to improve knowledge and awareness of sensitivity issues and the HARG committee will towards hosting future events on the subject and providing guidance and resources on our website.
